<p>You can consider meditation as a method of relaxation, a life changing activity or one of the many new age trends. However, it is really a deep and ancient practice that increases one&#8217;s depth and connection to something beyond the ego. Further, people have realized that it is also good for kids as there are cases of ADD, ADHD, and aggressive behavior that have teen improved through this practice. In addition, it becomes a platform for the family to communicate on important subjects and not just stick to mundane topics. These inner lessons will be with the child throughout his whole life.</p>
<p>It is true that children do have a short span of attention, but they can meditate for a couple of minutes. In order to help them calm their mind, short meditation should be practiced by children. A few minutes can make a tremendous difference. In order to set an excellent example for children, as a parent it would be good to have a regular practice. Children imitate adult behavior and this would be an excellent example. If you meditate daily, the curiosity of the children will be at its peak.</p>
<p>If your child asks you what you are doing, try to keep it very simple. Tell them the reason for your meditation that they can understand such as that meditation increases happiness and creates inner calmness. Let your child know that when you feel anger or sadness it helps you to feel better. Allow them to sit next to you while meditating. You can give them a special meditation cushion of their own. Tell him to close his eyes and to begin breathing in and out slowly. Maintain silence for a few minutes, and then inform the children that meditation is to sit quietly for a while with closed eyes and continued breathing. Tell your child to breathe<br />a little louder than usual and to listen to the sound of the breath. This gives an anchor for concentration.</p>
<p>You can set aside a few minutes before bed to meditate with yoru child. When the child is comfortable, tell him to breathe deeply through his belly, slowly inhaling and exhaling. This enables to calm both the mind and the body. For both the parent and the child this is an extremely wonderful experience.</p>
<p>You can make it varied by observing what your child enjoys. Find out the subjects and activities that are his interest, and create a scenario to unfold itself in the mind of the child as you describe it. As the story will continue the child will add elements to the characters that inspire him. This way he will enjoy a story as well as learn meditation. You can pick a setting like the beach or watching a sunset.</p>
<p>Everyone wishes that children should develop good habits such as healthy eating habits and exercising. Teaching kids how to meditate is teaching them another good habit which they can practice for the rest of their lives.</p>

<p> April 25th 1999 was an historic day. 10 thousand Falun Gong practitioners appealed outside the Chinese leadership&#8217;s compound at Zhongnanhai in Beijing. It was one of the largest peaceful demonstrations in China&#8217;s recent history, but later became a pretext for a decade-long persecution. The appeal was for a group of Falun Gong practitioners who were beaten and detained by police in northeastern Tianjin days earlier. Falun Gong is a traditional meditation practice that had grown hugely popular in China since 1992. In April 1999, an academic from the China Academy of Sciences published an article in a Tianjin magazine slandering Falun Gong. A group of practitioners then tried to voice their concerns with the publisher, but authorities later sent in police to disperse them. Some practitioners were beaten and detained. Others were told that the arrest orders came from central authorities. And so on April 25th, thousands converged on Beijing to appeal. Terry Xu, a professor at Tsinghua University at the time, was one of them. He says practitioners followed police directions, and lined up along the streets around Zhongnanhai. <p>Caring for one&#8217;s loved ones is a tough job that requires a lot of responsibility. As a family caregiver, not only do you have to manage your loved one&#8217;s health and medical needs, you also have to manage their daily living needs, including legal, financial, and social concerns. Judging from the important issues listed above, it is not hard to see that caregiving is often difficult, exhausting, and emotionally upsetting. Many times it feels like the care-receiver makes too many demands on the caregiver. At the same time, the caregiver still has to deal with her/his own responsibilities of work, marriage, and child rearing/parenting. In addition, the care-receiver and the caregiver may not see eye-to-eye regarding how caregiving situations should be handled.</p>
<p>Stress can be exhibited in a number of ways: physical symptoms such as muscle tension or increased blood pressure, behavioral symptoms such as depression or verbal or physical abuse, emotional symptoms such as the inability to concentrate, or loss of self-esteem, or participate in escape activities, such as excessive alcohol or drug use. To better manage stress it may be necessary to modify the source of stress and/or change your reaction to it.</p>
<p>To combat any stress that comes with being a caregiver it may be advantageous to keep a stress journal, noting events and issues that triggered a feeling of stress. Laughter, exercise, breathing techniques, meditation; guided imagery or visualization, yoga, music, a long, hot bath and other simple remedies are available to relieve stress. The main thing is that caregivers need to realize they must take care of themselves as well, to not let stress get to them. Otherwise, you&#8217;ll fail as a caregiver and be left with your own physical or emotional pains.</p>
<p>To avoid the stress of caregiving and, what I like to call, &#8220;caregiver burnout&#8221; it is important to share your feelings about your caregiving experience. Find someone you can talk to about this. Support groups are a sure-fire method of finding someone with whom you can talk.</p>
<p>Ultimately, there are eight steps a caregiver must focus on to control those things that cause stress:</p>
<p>1. Become aware of your stressors and your reactions. Don&#8217;t gloss over your problems.</p>
<p>2. Recognize what you can change and change what you can.</p>
<p>3. Reduce the intensity of your emotional reactions to stress. Are your expectations accurate?</p>
<p>4. Learn to moderate your physical reactions to stress. Take deep, slow breaths.</p>
<p>5. Build your physical reserves. Exercise.</p>
<p>6. Maintain your emotional reserves. Be kind to yourself.</p>
<p>7. Find someone to talk to about what you&#8217;re feeling. Join a support group.</p>
<p>8. If you cannot change the situation and cannot change the way you view the situation, you can still manage stress by mastering other skills. You can learn to &#8220;turn off&#8221; your stress.</p>
<p>Achieving the ability to turn one&#8217;s stress off is an important component to being the best caregiver possible. This is a difficult task to undertake with immediacy, however, it is something that can be achieved by following the steps and passages listed above.</p>
